Kerala Floods

What is Compassion?

According to the wiki, It's the sympathetic pity and concern for the sufferings and misfortunes of others. Well, that's not what Kerala received from others.

It was a week ago when I found myself walking the long and flooded roads of this once beautiful " God's own Country ". You could see people out in the streets, some crying for their lost homes, some crying for their lost loved ones, rest all rushing to console or save the others. Nobody spent their time inside their own safe havens while the rest suffered. People were out in the rain giving away food packets, clothes, shelter and making sure everyone was safe and sound.

We had help from all over the country as well as from other countries too. The Indian military was there in Kerala for rescue ops, we had many donations and charities from various places, We had 24/7 helplines. We in Amrita set-up our own helpline for Flood victims and it was run by the students  and faculties together. Our trust sent out lakhs worth of relief material for the affected areas. Our beloved Amma and her group donated Rs 10Cr towards helping and rebuilding Kerala.

It's currently the 30th of August, a week after the floods. People are slowly recovering from everything. There are still areas where the water has not receded out. We are hoping for decent recovery by next two weeks hopefully.
